Welcome to the Website of SClub 46 - the Sunday at 8:00 Orsett G.C. Swindle

Two items of news this week .

From two weeks ago.  when Mike Hepting left the clubhouse on the 8th June he must have thought that 31 points wouldn’t have been a winning score. How wrong he was!! And to make matters worse (i.e. funnier!) Dan Langan also had 31 points so they had to share the spoils!! Both have been cut by 1 shot, Mike now playing off 6.4(6) and Dan off 10.7(11).

There were no blobless rounds and nobody had a two at the 12th.

In the Summer Eclectic, Gary Sharp improved by 3 shots to move from 4th to 1st place.

As most of you are aware, last weekend saw 16 of us descend on Belton Woods for the 2025 Blobby Weekend.

This was a very good venue clearly geared to catering for large groups of golfers. It was a little concerning however seeing the sheer number of people around the 1st tees (2 courses) on the Saturday and hearing some people saying that they hadn’t played golf for a few years and how this would translate to pace of play and whilst it was a little slow at times they do have a couple of marshals who can identify groups that aren’t keeping up with pace of play and give them a friendly chivvy up! The condition of both course was generally decent especially considering the relatively dry weather we’ve been having recently. Granted the greens were a little slower than we are used to but generally putted will even though I’m sure the holes reduced in size when I putted……..

The meal we had on Saturday was of a decent quality and well organised as we had to make our choices earlier in the day and these choices were then printed on your place setting in case you’d forgotten what you’d chosen. The golf groups all ate in dedicated function rooms which is probably a good idea as it means those non-golfing guests eating int the main dining area don’t have put up with any rowdiness (not from us of course!).

The cost of food and drink seemed reasonable too, certainly more reasonable than the Forest of Arden last year. Hotels rooms were comfortable with air-conditioning units which were very welcome (and more so now).

Moving onto the results, the overall winner and recipient of a somewhat battered Blobby Pot was Andy Day. Congratulations Andy. Other results below:-
